ISNET’S OUTSTANDING AWARD PROGRAM ON IMPLEMENTING SDGS THROUGH SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY; 28-29 MARCH 2022; ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN
- Sustainable Development Goals 2030 are the latest guidelines covering all areas of socio-economic development. ISNET is cognizant of the significant role space technology & applications can play in achieving the SDGs
- Considering the significance of this topic, ISNET took initiative to organize a competition titled as ” ISNET’s Outstanding Award Program on Implementing SDGs through Space Science and Technology “. The awards were given to the initiatives/practices that holds the greatest promise for improving our understanding of harnessing space-based technology & applications for achieving the SDG. A total of 25x applications were received. Renowned experts on SDGs, were part of its panel of judges, namely: –
- Mr. Adnan H. ALIANI, Director Strategy and Programme Management Division and Officer-in-Charge Sub regional Office for South and South-West Asia, UNESCAP
- Mr. Mazhar Hussain, Director of Economic and Social Research Department Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC)
- Dr. Laurent Durieux, Coordinator of the Sustainable Development Goals Engagement, Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Secretariat
- The shortlisted 6x candidates were requested to send 10 minutes’ video of their proposal. The video was played during the evaluation session on 28 March 2022 at ICS followed by detailed question and answers session by the judges. 2 of the judges were present on-site and one of the judge evaluated the participants through Zoom
- The 29th March session during ICS was Chaired by Dr. Sadik Murat YUKSEL, Business Development Manager, TUBITAK UZAY, Türkiye and Co-Chaired by Ms. Riffat Shamshad, DCM, SUPARCO. The session began with brief talks from esteemed judges and Ms Barira Hanif who is Dy Dir (Sustainability) / SGDs Coordinator at NUST. Pakistan. The talks were then followed by brief question and answer session with the experts. At the end of the session, results were announced of the top 3x winners and shields and certificates were distributed by Executive Director ISNET to speakers and winners. As per the evaluation; following participants secured the winning positions:
- First: Ms. Sona Guliyeva, Azercosmos, Azerbaijan
- Second: Dr. Suhaib bin Farhan, SUPARCO
- Third: Dr. Najam Naqvi, IST
