In collaboration with Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and with experts from
SUPARCO, a 05x days hands-on workshop was organized in Ankara, Turkiye focusing
on the practical application of AI tools for crop classification. The five-day workshop
offered a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, focusing on key topics
such as remote sensing, aerial data processing, vegetation indices, and crop
classification using ML and DL techniques. Participants engaged with tools like QGIS and
Python (libraries such as Scikit-learn, Numpy and GDAL etc.) and worked on Google
Colab, a cloud-based platforms to implement AI models. Hands-on sessions involved
building crop classifiers with both drone and satellite imagery, annotating datasets, and
training AI models. Real-world case studies were demonstrated, including plant count for
yield estimation using YOLO, pest prediction based on IoT data, and crop vigor analysis
for variable-rate targeted spraying with drones. The workshop also encouraged
knowledge exchange, with participants discussing their ongoing research and practical
applications.
