President ISNET, being a Chairman of the GBM, delivered the opening statement, in which he extended a warm welcome to all the distinguished delegates. He paid his gratitude to COMSTECH and member States for their support in execution of ISNET’s activities. President ISNET highlighted that ISNET shall soon be marking its 30th anniversary and to commemorate this landmark, the focus should be more on meaningful activities and technical projects. The support from the relevant government shall assist in ensuring the implementation of decisions.
Delegates from member countries also made statements and approved the agenda of the Meeting which included, inter alia, Activity Report by the Executive Director ISNET; Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of ISNET; Ways and Means of Promoting and Expanding the Scope of the Network’s Activities; approval of ISNET annual budget for the biennium 2017-18 and confirmation of its audit reports for the period CY 2014-15.
The Governing Body (GB) appreciated the progress made by the Network in the past two years. It extended a vote of thanks to the outgoing President ISNET Mr. Ahmed Bilal and welcomed Mr. Qaiser Anees Khurram the new Chairman of SUPARCO in his ex-officio position of President, ISNET. The GB unanimously approved the recommendation of President ISNET to nominate Mr. Nadeem Ahmed Subzwari as Executive Director of ISNET.
All the delegates of the Governing Body emphasised on initiation of technical projects from ISNET platform. In the tenth GBM, the Secretariat was tasked to conduct feasibility studies on determining membership contribution criteria, initiating commercial training programs, establishing remote training centre, creating endowment fund and revising the methodology of ISNET correspondence. The feasibility studies conclusions were shared with the distinguished delegates.
ISNET Secretariat also shared the proposed activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary landmark of ISNET. The member States were urged to show their support to ISNET. Member States may also plan and organise scientific events in their respective countries and share with the Secretariat. The Secretariat emphasized that crucial financial and intellectual support shall be required from member States to make these activities more assertive and prominent. Furthermore to execute these activities, additional funds shall be required by the member States, to which the Governing Body agreed.
Delegates of GBM also attended International Conference on Space (ICS-2016) which was held from 20-22 September 2016 in Islamabad, Pakistan. This three-day conference connected space professionals, decision-makers, academicians, researchers and scientists as well as students of space sciences and technologies to showcase their achievements, share latest development in space technology and applications, and voice their opinions on important space and development issues in a highly interactive and cross-disciplinary environment.
